Striated Frogfish

It took us almost an entire year of diving at Blue Heron Bridge to find our first Striated Frogfish.  Their camouflage markings and wispy spinules helped them blend in. Our eyes weren’t trained very well to see them. In most cases, our striated frogfish finds have been perched on their pelvic fins next to some type of structure which they sit by or lay against. We’ve found only one on the move out waddling around while he hunted.

You can tell by the pictures that these frogfish have very distinct stout bodies and upturned mouths. If you are patient and quiet enough, they will send out a lure which resembles a tasty white worm.
