We are always interested in seeing owls and this trip didn’t disappoint! We saw all but one of our target owls with 7 in total. One of the owls, a Tropical Screech Owl, was right in the middle of a town square where locals wondered what we were doing. It was a challenge to image high up in a tree with numerous branches. In this same town, a Barn Owl hung out in the local church eves grooming as music emanated from the church interior.

While we were in Boca Tapada, we planned to look for the ugly but colorful King Vulture. When we arrived to the bird blind, only black vultures had come down to the carcass that had been left that morning. We quickly heard from one of the local guides that the likely reason was that an Ornate Hawk-Eagle was perched near by. We were fortunate to see the Hawk-Eagle as they have a very large range. After a short walk around the area, we returned to the now empty blind to see the King Vultures strutting around.
