The 2015 Goliath Grouper aggregation was challenging to image.
Low visibility and weak south current had the 100 plus participants in the new moon spawn scattered in groups of 40-50 individuals out in the sand all around the Castor.
Smaller groups would take turns “stacking up” to face the current in front of the stern.
While bait was present we saw very little of the “disco ball bait entourages” surrounding the fish last year.
Of note, that season we saw some of the largest individuals to date with a few easily topping 300-400 pounds.
It is always incredible to see how the aggregation changes the behavior of this normally stand offish fish.
Imagine having a six foot long fish settle on your shoulder to peer into your monitor while another hams it up inches from your video’s dome port.
