We were lucky enough to be in prime position to see this young female leopard chase and catch a ground squirrel. Amazingly, the squirrel was struck, pinned and bit repeatedly but never stopped fighting till the end. We thought there was a possibility it might get away. What action! The satisfaction in the leopard’s demeanor was priceless.
Our guide told us that young leopards survive on birds and small game in their early years. It doesn’t look like much of a meal! Fortunately, we didn’t need to see it eat the squirrel as it trotted off to the grasses.
